A Beautiful End to a Star’s Life (NASA, Chandra, 07/11/13)

Aspects of being you

Ronald D. Walker

Aspects of being you as an writer of fiction. The most pronounced aspect of people is that we are all unique. No one is even remotely like you and no one lived through the experiences you have. With that distinction comes hidden qualities you alone possess. I believe everyone should write. The history we may leave for others to learn of us and our lives might be considered to be priceless by future generations.

Aspects of being you and the history of your people who came before you should be recorded. Our ancestors came to America without knowledge of how to communicate with the common people. Language was only one of the hindrances they would find to be difficult to overcome. Establishing a life had to be extraordinarily difficult. The tales those people could tell would be just as extraordinary. Like so many people, I know little about my ancestors. One leg of my genealogical map began in some royal court when a grandfather had help in leaving that unknown country and traveled on a ship to Virginia. A royal decree convinced him that leaving was better than being a public spectacle as the principle character in a public hanging or beheading. The story does not clarify if he was in France or what was known to be the English Empire, long before it became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801. What I actually know about the first members of my family to come to America and their history can be held in a thimble and it was all done orally. Journals, diaries, letters, even what was surely written in family bibles has been lost. What a story that written history would be for me and the world.

Aspects of being you as a fiction writer to develop into a brilliant author and a star in fiction writing. Shine bright like a distant star. Will your children and grandchildren have more than I have? Could that history, even for a few generations, be your work of literary publication. A Pulitzer prize might be waiting to be typed and certainly a book that many others would purchase to enjoy reading and have a multitude of virtual experiences garnered from those pages. One could glean vicarious pleasure from the struggles of the characters portrayed on those pages. My next entry will offer insights of how that task might come to fruition for everyone who wants to write, but are afraid it will be too difficult or too expensive. It is neither.
