Rayford Coleman was a civil war veteran who was severely wounded and received a special furlough from President Lincoln and an accommodation from the President and General Grant. Returning to his ancestral home in Texas, he faces threats from the presence of criminal elements operating in Northeast and Central Texas. Rewards for the capture of the outlaws who were Wanted Dead or Alive were increased as time passed and their notoriety grew. Many were figures involved in such violence that was incomprehensible to men of that time. Protecting his people was his greatest desire, while he built a new life and expanded the family farm.
