Write to be great. Write to be brilliant, with a plan for writing that allows being true to yourself to be your highest goal in living. When we write it should remain our highest goal. How to do it is the mystery. Feeling that I have not yet reached that point keeps me working toward the point of being satisfied that I have reached a certain standard and I can possibly work beyond that point. Perfecting the process is the key to my being satisfied that I have done my best. I have no need to be esteemed to be a great author if my stories are entertaining for even a few people, possibly a few hundred thousand, that will be satisfaction enough.
Write to be great and concentrate on writing in my individual manner, which will allow the story to flow and build, is everything I can hope for. It is everything we should all hope for. Authors through the ages have been unique and some were wildly different, but they were said to be rated above others in their niche. To be excluded from that group will leave us to be considered unique. Hurrah for that.
The only true satisfaction I believe I will ever have is reading the finished manuscript and enjoy reading it. I get me and I write to be great. I hope others will and that is why I continue writing. As enjoyable as monetary compensation may be, that was not my initial motivation. Becoming a good writer was my initial motivation. I planned to write great stories, not to be a great writer.
I am nearing the end of my time to be of any significance because of my advanced age. I started late because I felt I had no talent to achieve. I will put it mildly and say I was not encouraged by people who were in authority to the point of hearing a college professor say I had no talent to contribute. Bull! Everyone has a story and the electronic age gave everyone the ability. A good percentage of homes have a computer. Almost everyone has a cellphone, even young children. A tablet with Windows is relatively inexpensive. A story can be constructed on each of them. Build your story as you would construct a house. Lay a foundation by simply beginning. Pure and simple. Do whatever you feel will help you to whatever end you need but do not extend the process as an excuse to not begin actually writing. Write to publish great stories and write to be great as your motivation.
